SHORT SYNOPSIS
Rajat has had a controlled life. Coming from a family with an authoritative father, he has had very little scope to make his own decisions. Tara has witnessed her father fragment after a failed marriage, and now she fears abandonment. Amrita, Tara’s younger sibling, has always had her way, with very little to feel responsible about.
Based in the India of the 90s, this is the story of three people who set out to live their dreams, but end up living like strangers under the same roof. While Rajat ends up torn between the two women, Tara slips into clinical depression and Amrita, who is pregnant with Rajat’s child, is way past her delivery date but is not able to deliver the child.
They are a living reminder to each other that they’ve been the main reason for unhappiness in each other’s lives.
DIRECTOR'S NOTE
This story is extremely close to me. It is based on a family in the same situation in our proximity. As a child, they cast an everlasting intrigue in my nascent mind. When I grew older and moved closer to understanding a man-woman relationship, I was compelled to visit this family in my memory. I collaborated with my writer, Shilpa Srivastava, and over years, we kept going back, revisiting the circumstances of these characters. And each time I would visit them as a piece of fiction, I would be baffled by their reality and would retreat. We finally brought Tara, Rajat and Amrita on paper and decided to leave them in the situation of the actual family. They navigated their way back to the 80s & 90s, freeing themselves from time and space. Their only universality are their emotions - pure, unadulterated and relatable.
